Why is our Heat Treated Texas Flint so good?

Why is our Heat Treated Texas Flint so good?

It's our kilns!  Our kilns are set up to take the temperature in three different locations.  The first is the air temperature inside the kiln.  The next area is the out side surface area of the rock.  The last one is the very core of the material being heat treated.  Because we do this, we always get a slow steady even cook.  It's never to hot or never to cold any where in the kiln.  We give our material a longer dry time than most folks and this eliminates most interior flint checking.  We then hold if for longer at the target temperature so that is cooks even all the way through.  It takes us a week to heat treat a batch.

Texas Ranger Badge

Back in the old days badges were not mass produced.  Legend has it, that the early American law officer would make his own badge from a silver coin. Usually the Morgan silver dollar or the Mexican 8 Reales.  The early Texas Ranger badges were made from the 8 Reales.  They were also sometimes made by blacksmiths and gunsmiths.  They were hand made and they were rustic.   We follow this tradition to the letter.  We make our own stamps just like in the 1800's.  Each badge is hand stamped one stamp at a time and made on an oak stump right here in our studio in Fredericksburg, Texas.  Each badge is hand cut from a real silver coin.  This makes each badge unique with its own character.  We try hard to make these replicas look and feel just like it's original counter part.
This is a very well made badge.  Perfect for you collection or reenactment use.

" 2nd Generation,vented micro pocket piston"

" 2nd Generation,vented micro pocket piston"

Top of the line patent pending technology second to none!!

Endorsed by Outdoor Canada Magazine and Survivorman, Les Stroud!!

"Be sure you buy the best. The Wilderness Solution's 2nd Generation fire piston was selected by Outdoor Life Magazine and is featured in the March Survival Issue - No Matches Needed."

" 2nd Generation, vented micro pocket piston"   feaures an aluminum piston shaft and our patent pending pressure relief valve.

Its slim profile and aluminum construction offer the ultimate in light weight carrying convenience and its high compression seal permits ignition of natural tinders like cattail fluff and decayed wood.

Now and then, an innovative new product comes along that sets new standards for its industry. That’s exactly what’s happening right now throughout the survival skills market with the advent of the new, patent pending, “2nd Generation” fire pistons.
What is “2nd Generation”?
The superior sealing and compression capability of O rings is a well established fact and with proper engineering, O rings seals can make exceptional fire pistons. However, every O ring style fire piston ever made till now suffers from a common short coming. O rings seal so efficiently it’s impossible to displace the trapped air and fully insert the piston after making your fire.
That  is why they are shown on Ebay in two pieces or with the piston protruding. If an O ring piston is shown fully inserted, its because it leaks, has had the O ring removed for the photo ( misrepresentation ) )or a foreign object has been inserted to break the seal.
Fire pistons lacking this venting mechanism are now referred to as “1st Generation”.
With 2nd Generation fire pistons, the plunger can easily be closed after use by opening the valve. When the valve is again closed, full compression is restored and the piston is locked in the closed position by vacuum, preventing its accidental loss.

Additional features
• This 2nd Generation piston has a precision machined
aluminum piston shaft, This tip will never melt, chip, crack or loose pressure due to porosity like wood
.
• Large tinder cavity. The advantage of a large tinder cavity becomes very apparent when using natural tinders. Fire pistons are intended to make fire and the first thing a prospective purchaser should ask a seller is “What will your specific fire piston ignite?” Some offerings will only light man-made, pre-charred tinders and were therefore designed only to hold a tiny pinch of char cloth. An open tinder cavity makes it easy to transfer the coal without a pick.

• The 2nd Generation pistons are smaller than the old style. Here is a full function, compression fire starter you can actually carry in your pocket .
• High temperature ignition. The most compelling aspect of any compression fire starter lies in its ability to ignite commonly available, natural tinders. 2nd Generation fire pistons were designed to ignite readily available, wild, woodland tinders such as cattail fluff and decayed punk wood with ease. No other fire piston maker is able to demonstrate the ignition of more challenging tinders such as punk wood.
• All 2nd Generation fire pistons are provided with a spare O ring, full instructions on care and use plus guidance on selecting the most suitable tinders in your geographical region.
• Each fire piston is covered by a no questions asked performance guarantee. If it ever fails for any reason, simply return it to the factory for repair of replacement – no charge.
